Car Batteries, Starters & Alternators in Sandston, VA
Battery, starter, alternator. A no-start is one of those three about ninety percent of the time, and they are not interchangeable. We test the battery under load, test the charging output at the alternator, and measure the draw at the starter before anybody buys anything.
The other ten percent is a corroded terminal, a bad ground, a failed relay, or a parasitic drain quietly emptying the battery overnight — and that last one is the reason people buy three batteries in two years and stay angry about it.

What you get
Every batteries & charging job includes
- Load test on the battery, not just a voltage reading
- Charging system output tested at idle and under load
- Starter draw measured
- Parasitic draw testing for the overnight-dead-battery problem
- Terminals, cables and grounds cleaned and inspected
- Battery replacement and proper disposal of the old one
- Alternator and starter replacement

The 16-point vehicle check, with photos of anything worth showing you. It is a health report, not a sales pitch — and it does not apply to state inspections, which are a separate state-regulated procedure.
Your battery doesn't die in winter — it dies from last summer
Heat kills batteries. Virginia summers cook the plates and evaporate the electrolyte, and the damage is permanent and invisible. Cold weather doesn't cause the failure; it just demands more cranking amps than the damaged battery can still deliver, which is why so many batteries die on the first genuinely cold morning in January.
A two-minute load test in October beats a jump start in a Food Lion parking lot in January. We do it free with any service.
Signs it is the alternator, not the battery
Headlights that dim and brighten with engine speed. A battery light on the dash. A car that jump-starts fine, runs for twenty minutes and dies again — that is a car running off its battery because nothing is recharging it. A brand-new battery that goes flat in a week.
Replacing the battery on an alternator fault buys you a few days and then the same tow.
The staff are professional and explains everything very clearly. They are honest and transparent with no attempts to upsell unnecessary services. I highly recommend this shop for reliable work.

Batteries & Charging — questions we get asked
How long does a car battery last?
Three to five years in this climate. Heat is the limiting factor here, not cold. Once it is past three, get it load-tested at every oil change.
My car clicks but does not start. Battery or starter?
A rapid machine-gun clicking is usually a battery too weak to turn the engine. A single loud clunk with lights that stay bright is more often the starter. Either way it is a five-minute test rather than a guess.
Can you find why my battery keeps going dead overnight?
Yes — that is a parasitic draw test. We measure what is still drinking current after the car has gone to sleep and then isolate it circuit by circuit. It takes a bit of patience and it beats buying batteries forever.
